Editorial Standards

GovConFeed exists to cover federal contracting accurately, for readers who act on what they read. This page sets out exactly how we report, source, and check what we publish — and how we use technology in the newsroom.

Sourcing

Every article is reported from primary and authoritative sources: agency contract announcements (war.gov, SAM.gov, GSA), Federal Register notices, GAO bid protest decisions, DOJ press releases, and court dockets, supplemented by reporting from established trade press including Federal News Network, FedScoop, Defense News, and Washington Technology. We do not rewrite a single outlet's story. Each article cites at least three sources, with at least one primary source, listed openly in a "Sources" section at the foot of the piece. Where primary and secondary sources disagree on a figure, the primary source wins and we note the discrepancy.

Fact-checking

Before publication, every article is checked against a fixed list: dollar amounts, dates, the awardee's exact legal entity, the full list of awardees on multi-award vehicles, contract ceilings versus obligated amounts, and set-aside type. Where a figure or date is uncertain, we say so rather than guess. When new findings supersede old reporting, we update the article and note the change.

How we use AI, and who is responsible

Every article is drafted with AI. That is the whole draft, not a polish pass, so we say it on every article. The draft is written only from sources fetched and read for that story. Before it can be saved, an automated fact-check re-fetches each cited source and removes any figure, date, name, or quote it cannot find there. Drafts are then held in a queue and released for publication by the publisher; nothing publishes itself. When a reader or a source shows us an error, we fix the article, note the change on it, and log it on the corrections page.

The person accountable for all of it is John Folger, publisher.

Bylines

Our bylines are desk names, not people. Each one labels an AI-assisted coverage desk with a fixed beat so readers can follow a topic. The desks have no résumés or credentials, and their pages say so:

  • Marcus Webb — Contracts & Acquisitions Desk, AI-assisted
  • Sara Draper — Policy & Regulatory Desk, AI-assisted
  • Colin Reyes — Defense & Technology Desk, AI-assisted

Corrections

Federal contracting moves fast, and early reports can change as awards are protested, modified, or clarified. We aim to be clear about what is confirmed versus reported, and we correct mistakes promptly when they are brought to our attention. To report an error, email [email protected] with the article and the correction. Every correction we issue is listed on the corrections page.

Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently of any advertising or sponsorship on this site. Sponsor and advertiser relationships, where they exist, never influence what we cover or how we cover it.

Accuracy is not a claim of authority

GovConFeed is an independent publication and is not affiliated with any government agency, department, or contractor. Coverage is for general information and education, not legal or compliance advice. For questions, corrections, or partnerships, reach us at [email protected].
