Who we are

What we collect

Pageview analytics (everyone)

When you visit a page on GovConFeed, our server logs:

  • The path you visited (e.g. /article/example-slug)
  • The referrer (the previous page or search query that sent you here, when your browser provides it)
  • Your user-agent string (browser and OS)
  • A truncated hash of your IP address (not the IP itself — only a short SHA-256 fingerprint used to count unique visitors)
  • Timestamp

We don't store raw IP addresses, browser fingerprints, location data, or any personal identifiers tied to pageviews.

Subscriber data (only if you sign up)

If you submit your email address to subscribe, we store:

  • Your email address
  • The signup source (which page or form you submitted from)
  • The signup timestamp and confirmation status
  • A random confirmation/unsubscribe token used in our email links

We don't sell, trade, or rent subscriber lists. Subscribers receive emails only when we publish new coverage.

Cookies and third-party services

First-party cookies

We use a session cookie if you log into the editorial admin area. Public visitors have no first-party tracking cookies set by GovConFeed.

Third-party services on this site

  • Google AdSense — serves advertising on this site. Google and its partners may set cookies and use device identifiers to deliver ads, including personalized advertising based on your browsing history. You can review and adjust ad personalization at myadcenter.google.com. For details on Google's data practices, see policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
  • Cloudflare — provides DNS, security (DDoS protection, bot mitigation), and CDN caching. Cloudflare may set cookies for security and performance. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
  • Google Fonts — fonts served from fonts.googleapis.com. Browser font requests reach Google's servers. See Google's privacy policy.
  • ByteSMTP / ByteSMTP-routed email — handles transactional email (signup confirmation, welcome, unsubscribe).
  • GovSeeker — appears as a clearly-labeled sponsor. Clicking the GovSeeker banner takes you to govseeker.com, which has its own privacy policy.

Your rights

Unsubscribe

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also visit any unsubscribe URL we sent you, or email [email protected] with the subject "Unsubscribe."

GDPR (European Economic Area, UK)

If you're in the EEA or UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, port, and object to processing of your personal data. To exercise these rights, email [email protected].

CCPA / CPRA (California)

If you're a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We don't sell personal information. Some advertising activity may qualify as "sharing" under California law; you can opt out via the cookie consent banner or at myadcenter.google.com. Email [email protected] for any other CCPA request.

Data retention

  • Pageviews — retained in our database. We periodically prune logs older than 12 months.
  • Subscribers — retained until you unsubscribe. After unsubscribe, we retain the email in a suppression list to honor your unsubscribe choice.
  • Server logs — operational logs (gunicorn access/error) are rotated and typically discarded within 30 days.

Children

GovConFeed is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Editorial transparency

Our articles are AI-assisted and human-reviewed. We synthesize public information from primary sources (government data, regulatory filings, news reporting) into original coverage. See our credits & permissions page for sources and image attribution.

Changes to this policy

We update this page when our practices change. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date. We may also notify subscribers by email if changes affect them.
